Le Persil Fleur – Paris

In the late summer of 1983 my father and I, accompanied by his wife, spent 10 days in Paris, France. One evening mid-way through our visit we ventured to a small, quaint, restaurant just around the corner from our hotel on the Rue de Caumartin near the Palais Garnier (Opera House) called Le Persil Fleur.

Le Persil Fleur was a simple yet elegant bistro type establishment with its inside dining area dimly lit. The accouterments were pleasant and not lavish or snobbish. It was a very comfortable place to dine.

The salad was of fresh spinach leaves with shallots, peppercorns and capers laced with a mixture of oil, red wine vinegar and garlic. The main course consisted of sliced roast beef, aus jus, carrots and small parsley covered new potatoes with small loaves of freshly baked bread. Traditionally baked daily, bread is a key component to French sustenance.

The meat was very flavorful, the carrots steamed to the perfect degree of crispness, and the potatoes cooked to the optimum tenderness, though the portions were very conservative. The service was effective but not over-bearing.

All in all, it was a tremendously enjoyable meal not only because of it being in the heart of the “city of light”, but would make a worthwhile dining occasion in any locale.

Should you happen to be in the vicinity of the Opera House in Paris, France, visit “Le Persil Fleur”. You won’t be disappointed!

Though it’s been decades since my rendezvous at Le Persil Fleur, I have been following it’s reviews and write-ups regularly over the years, for nostalgic reasons. The site appears to be unchanged over the years and the list of important clientelle supports my favorable opinion formed nearly three decades ago. The food and service have most likely maintained the same quality since those days and perhaps, if possible, even improved. Hopefully in the not too distant future, I’ll have an opportunity to re-visit Le Persil Fleur for an updated evaluation.
